Here you will find links to my Life-Choice Memoir Assignment, my interpretation of the process i used, and my insights on the experience of working on this project.
I was halfway finished with a draft for my Life-Choice Memoir and I had already ran out of ideas and things to write. I needed a much stronger topic to write about so I decided to start over and write about a different experience. I was hesitant to write about the experience because it was so personal and traumatic but I'm glad that I did. I consulted my sister, which you can read more about in my Life-Choice Memoir Process Reflection blog. Writing about such an impacting event has helped me to express my thoughts in a different way and has allowed me to reflect deeply upon the experience. The process of writing creative descriptions was challenging and I wasn't sure how to structure the dialog in a way that allowed the story to be fluid. I ended up reading passages in some fictional novels for inspiration. This really helped me visualize how I could effectively implement description and correctly format the dialogue. I also referenced some of the readings from the Writing Process Quote Collage blog post that we worked on previously. It encouraged me to continue to write without worrying about having a "shitty first draft".
I am satisfied with my finished first draft. I find it better to leave a project for a while and come back later to work on it so I look forward to revisiting and adding more or further polishing what I already have.
